Mudroom Bench - Before & After

Good morning, everyone! Hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

Remember back when I spoke about having my latest building project almost done? I only had to paint some trim and that was it? Did I mention that the project sat for many months? There were a few snags. I got frustrated and cranky and ignored the project. I basically gave myself a very long time out.

Well, the latest building project is a mudroom bench! I am relieved and excited that it is done. We finally have a place to sit, hang our coats and put miscellaneous items in name labeled bins.

Here is a partial picture of the mudroom / entryway before I painted the entire room.

Mudroom - Before paint.

Here is the nook for the bench after I painted the room.

Mudroom - After paint.

As you can see, that is part of the seat frame for the bench. Because this post would end up being crazy long, I will post a tutorial later this week on how the mudroom bench was built. :)

Here is the bench completely done. I actually just finished it two days ago. Finally! *happy dance*

Mudroom Bench - Upper portion.
Mudroom Bench - Lower half.

Lets decorate the bench area and give it a seat cushion.

Mudroom Bench - Completed.

Here are some angle shots. The space is not very big and can be difficult to capture.

Mudroom Bench - Lower left side.
Mudroom Bench - Upper left side.
Mudroom Bench - Right side.

What do you think? I am very happy with the way it turned out and ecstatic that it is done. :) Below are some of the mini projects I did to complete the overall look.

Mirrors painted white.
Label holders painted.

Here is a close up of the fabric I used for the bench seat. Yes, I will have a tutorial on that too.  :)

Bench seat fabric used.

Now for the breakdown of items used.
  • Mudroom - Painted with Valspar paint, Winter in Paris #5002-1A.
  • Black bins - Target. I purchased these a couple of years ago. So glad all of them fit nicely on the shelf.
  • Martha Stewart Adhesive Metal Bookplates - Staples. I spray painted them with Valspar, Smoke Fusion. It is a very close match to the color of the mudroom.
  • Mirrors - Target. I purchased these a couple of years ago, as well. I spray painted them with Rustoleum, White Satin.
  • Pillows - Target.
  • Bench Fabric - JoAnns. By the way, I sprayed the fabric with Scotch Guard. It is in a mudroom, ya know.  :)
  • Coat Hooks - Lowes.
Lets have a side by side, before and after shot.

Mudroom Bench - Before and After.

There you have it! The rest of the mudroom / laundry room still needs to be completed. But we all know how projects can go. One day...  ;)

Update: You can view the building a mudroom bench tutorial here and the how to make the seat cushion, here.

Update: Hubby and I built some rolling shoe storage to fit underneath the bench. You can view the post, here

    1. Rachel, thank you for your compliments! Maybe my tutorial later this week will help. Or, you can buy a pre-made bench, decorate around it, add some throw pillows, maybe make your own cushion or cushion cover and voila! You have a fancy mudroom bench area! It can be done. You can do it! :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It is truly appreciated. :)

    1. Thank you, Erin. I have a 3 1/2 year old boy and he loves the bench area. Of course, he likes to lay on it and pretend it is a bed or stand on it and look at himself in the mirrors. lol Hence, why I put three coats of Scotch Guard on the cushion fabric. ;)

Thank you so much for stopping by. :)

    1. Awww...THANK YOU! Even though it is a mudroom, I feel it can still be a place that can be comfortable, functional and definitely pretty! :) Yeah, I saw the fabric at JoAnns and fell in love with it. It was more money than I wanted to spend, but luckily I was able to use a %40 off coupon. :) Plus, the fabric is very dense and thick. Much needed in this type of area.

Thank you for commenting and you have a GREAT day, as well! :)

Looking forward to your future projects. Keep up the great ideas.

    1. Thank you, Renee! :) The cost was not too much since we had most of the extra wood. We had to buy the sheet of one inch MDF for the seat and shelf. That would have been it, but I wanted a smooth look for the back wall, so I went and got some hardboard. In all honesty, the bench cushion was the most expensive! I did not know foam was that expensive and unfortunately I have a tendency to pick the most expensive fabric! :( Luckily the fabric was on sale, but it was still expensive since it is upholstery fabric and I used a coupon to get a discount on the foam.

Yep, got lots of ideas swirling in this head of mine. Giving me a headache. ;) Not sure if the ideas will flop. lol We will see... :)

    1. Thank you. I bet you could pull it off. :) A mudroom bench area does not have to be a built in and if you can not, you do not have to build the bench. One could find a pre-made one and decorate around it to designate the mudroom / entry area.

Thanks for visiting. Very much appreciated. :)
